North has scored four tries in as many games for the Scarlets |
Teenage wing George North has been tipped for big things by Scarlets boss Nigel Davies. The 6ft 4in 18-year-old, who weighs 16st 7lb, is set to play against the Ospreys on Saturday after scoring four tries in four games. "All credit to George - an exceptional talent," said Davies, who handed North his debut in Treviso on 4 September. "He has come through very quickly. I thought he would come through quick but not maybe this quick." North, a former Llandovery College student, has forced his way into possible consideration for Wales' squad for the autumn internationals against Australia, South Africa, Fiji and New Zealand. "He has put his hand up for selection [at the Scarlets]. He has given us a different direction on the wing," added Davies. "He is very mature as a player and he can do whatever he wants to do and whatever he wants to achieve within this game." | 606: DEBATE |
Scarlets centre Regan King has also been impressed by North, who has a similar build to British and Irish Lions centre Jamie Roberts. "George North has stepped up well," said King. "I think he is straight out of school, and he has got the physical capabilities to player Magners League and Heineken Cup, and international rugby for that matter, so we are just looking to nurture him and look after him. "He has made an impact already and I hope he continues that." North, who was born in Norfolk but brought up in north Wales, scored twice on debut against Treviso and also went in for tries against Aironi and the Dragons.
