Prop Jamie Corsi toured Australia with Wales in 2007 |
The Scarlets have signed three young players on development contracts including former Newport Gwent Dragons prop Jamie Corsi. Corsi, 21, toured Australia with the senior Wales side in 2007 after being identified as a talented tight head. But a back injury the following year stunted Corsi's progress and he was recently released by the Dragons. The Scarlets have also signed Merthyr RFC number eight Ben Morgan, 20, and Tonmawr RFC hooker Rhys Lawrence, 21. The trio's two-year deals will see them train full-time with director of rugby Nigel Davies' senior squad, but the youngsters will also pursue educational or vocational studies. | 606: DEBATE |
Scarlets head of regional development and recruitment Gareth Jenkins said: "Jamie, Ben and Rhys are young men with the potential to be very good players for the region. "The full-time training they'll have... means that they have a genuine opportunity to progress to the next stage of their development. "They will each also be studying for educational or vocational qualifications so that, as well as progressing in rugby, they have an academic or trade base. "If they progress as we know they can in the next two seasons they will each give themselves a strong chance of becoming a professional in Nigel's squad."
