Kiwi Daniel Braid has been playing for Australian side Queensland Reds |
Former New Zealand flanker Daniel Braid has signed for the Scarlets on a three-year contract. The 28-year-old, capped four times, will leave Australian Super 14 side the Queensland Reds this summer and join the Welsh region in July 2009. The move is subject to Braid obtaining a work permit and passing a medical. "I'm really looking forward to moving to join the Scarlets and playing rugby in Europe. This is an exciting opportunity for me," Braid said. "I really like the look of the Scarlets. They have quite an open style of play and new stadium complex shows looks great. "I've seen pictures of it and spoken to [the Scarlets' Kiwi prop] Deacon Manu about the indoor training centre as well, which sounds pretty impressive. | 606: DEBATE |
"The new stadium and all its facilities shows me just where they want to be in the future. "I've been looking at the Magners League which looks like a good competition and following the Welsh and Irish players in the Six Nations. "I'm looking forward to playing in the Heineken Cup and the Magners League." Braid, 6ft 1in and 14st 11lb, is the son of lock Gary Braid, who played for the All Blacks in 1983-84. The Scarlets' new recruit began his top-flight career at Auckland where he played in the Air New Zealand Cup and - for the Blues - in Super 14. He played three Tests for the All Blacks in 2002 and 2003 - making his debut against Wales - scoring one try. Braid returned to the New Zealand international set-up last summer, playing one international against Australia where he ended up on a one-year deal that took him to the Reds for this season.
