Jones is looking to secure his final big professional contract |
Llanelli Scarlets fear that Stephen Jones could follow Dwayne Peel out of Stradey Park at the end of the season. Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher has told BBC Wales Sport that Jones, 30, is currently holding talks with other clubs over a possible move.
Jones' Scarlets deal runs until 2009, but it contains a clause allowing him to look for other offers this month.
Gallacher says he is desperate for the Wales fly-half to stay, and hopes Jones will accept a new three-year deal.
"Stephen has activated that option to look around, we have no issues with that because it's a contractual agreement," Gallacher told BBC Radio Wales' Scrum V programme.

"We're in negotiations with his representative, hopefully to agree a contract for another three years."
The news of Jones' possible departure comes just four days after the region announced that Wales scrum-half Dwayne Peel will join Sale Sharks next season.
If Jones does leave, it will further test the Welsh Rugby Union resolve in implementing its new policy which suggests only players who play their club rugby in Wales will be selected for the national squad.
The fly-half, who declined to comment when contacted by BBC Sport, re-signed for the Scarlets in the summer of 2006 after spending two seasons with French club Clermont Auvergne.
A return to France could be a distinct possibility, with Biarritz looking to sign a fly-half.
England giants Leicester are also in the market for an experienced number 10.
Gallacher admitted he had "no idea" if Jones will take up the Scarlets' offer of a new three-year deal.
But he dismissed the suggestion that the uncertainty, coupled with Peel's shock departure, was having an unsettling influence on the region.
"Life goes on, it's professional sport and contracts are contracts," said Gallacher.
"You have to accept at times that players wish to move on, or indeed wish to stay. That's the position with Stephen.
"Obviously there's been a lot of attention on Dwayne but before Christmas I re-signed eight or nine current internationals who will be staying here for the next two or three years.
"Dwayne is high profile and naturally it was of interest to the media, but it doesn't really affect the morale of the team or indeed the club.
"We would have loved to have Dwayne stay but he's chose to move on for the reasons he's already explained. We keep going."
The Scarlets are also facing competition to hold on to star centre Regan King, who has been linked with a move the rivals Ospreys.
And Wales number eight Alix Popham is also rumoured to be seeking a move elsewhere.
