Leicester have 15,000 members - but a ticket allocation of only 9,500 |
Thousands of Leicester season-ticket holders look set to miss out on the Heineken Cup final after the club were handed only a four-figure allocation. The Tigers have so far received less than 9,500 tickets for the Twickenham showpiece against Wasps on 20 May.
With 15,000 members, that means a large number of Leicester fans will have to search elsewhere for a ticket.
"We can fully understand the annoyance of our supporters over this," said Tigers managing director David Clayton.
"We will, however, continue to push ERC [European Rugby Cup, the tournament organisers] for additional tickets."
Some 63,000 tickets have already been sold for the final after they were made available in May last year, with 56,000 snapped up through public sale and 7,000 allocated to European Rugby Cup stakeholders.
The remaining 19,000 will be shared between the two finalists, but that means demand far outstripping supply in Leicester's case.
Supporters not connected with the two finalists - notably Munster followers - have now started offering their tickets at face value to Tigers fans.
Clayton added: "There has always been a strong bond between supporters of Leicester and Munster.
"It is pleasing to know the Munster supporters are trying to help in this way."
