Ulster-born Ian Humphreys in action for Leicester tigers |
Ian Humphreys has agreed a loan deal from Leicester Tigers to Leeds Tykes who were relegated from the Guinness Premiership last season. Humphreys, who moved from Belfast Harlequins the season before last, is the current leading points scorer in the Guinness A League with 58 points.
The 24-year-old is looking to step up a grade having failed to nail down a starting place at Welford Road.
Humphreys will start Saturday's game against Sedgley Park on the bench.
The live-wire number 10 formerly represented Ireland and Ulster at U21 level.
Brother of former Ireland fly-half David, the younger Humphreys also captained Ireland in the Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament in Hong Kong last season.
Leeds Director of Rugby Stuart Lancaster said he would be a big bonus for the club.
"Ian is a quality addition to our squad and we are looking forward to having him on board," he said.
"He was very influential for Leicester in our recent Guinness A League fixture, producing a man of the match performance both with his general play and especially his kicking from hand and for goal.
"Having met with him, I know he is looking forward to the opportunity of playing at the Tykes and I would like to thank Leicester for allowing Ian to join us on loan."
