Scrum-half Karl Dickson has signed a two-year contract extension with Harlequins which will keep him at the London club until the summer of 2013.

Dickson, 28, signed from Championship side Bedford in June 2009 and has played 21 games since joining.

"I came to Quins as I wanted to prove myself at this level and become the best possible player I can," he said.

"Quins offered me a great environment to do this and I am enjoying being involved with such a friendly club."

Dickson added: "The competition with Danny Care helps both of us and hopefully I can push him as much as possible and make him a better player."

Director of rugby Conor O'Shea said: "I am delighted Karl has committed himself to Quins. Our aim is to keep this group of players together over a number of years and Karl's competition with Danny Care will only bring the best out of the two players."
