Kingsholm is the smallest venue set to be used in the 2015 World Cup

Gloucester managing director Ken Nottage has said that the Shed side of Kingsholm could be developed in time for the 2015 World Cup in England.

Kingsholm and Leicester's Welford Road are set to be the only club rugby grounds used at the tournament.

Nottage told BBC Gloucestershire: "Our next focus is the Shed. Our fans have told us they still want terracing.

"When we're ready we'll make it a bit bigger and a bit better, hopefully in time for the World Cup."

The last time England staged the tournament, in 1991, Gloucester staged a game between New Zealand and the United States.

That match was a 12,000 sell out, but even with Kingsholm's enlarged capacity - currently 16,500 - Nottage accepts getting such a major name again could be a long shot.

"There are certain financial targets which have to be hit, and if you think a game can fill a 60,000 stadium, then you take those matches to those venues," he added.

"In the preliminary rounds we'd hope to pick up a couple of good matches, but in the World Cup they're all good matches."

The club's online fanzine editor, Bob Fenton said: "The Gloucester public have shown they have a appetite for international rugby.

"We've had England A and Ireland play at Kinghsolm, as well as age-group internationals, and they've been well attended games.

"If we have a meaningful international, even if it was Romania against Georgia, people will want to go and see it."
