Ryan flattered by link to Wasps

Ryan took over as Gloucester head coach in 2005

Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan says he is flattered to be linked with a move to Wasps next season, but has no plans to leave Kingsholm.

Newspaper reports suggested Ryan could succeed Ian McGeechan at Adams Park.

But he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "To be linked is flattering but at the same time it's probably only a statement of being successful here.

"I'm long-term contracted, I'm enjoying what I'm doing and I think the club's heading in the right direction."

Former England international Ryan played for Wasps until 1997 but is now in his fourth season in charge of the Cherry and Whites after first joining the club's coaching staff as assistant to Nigel Melville in 2002.

Under Ryan, Gloucester have won the 2006 European Challenge Cup and have topped the Premiership for the last two seasons.

And flanker Peter Buxton believes Ryan will want to complete the job he has started at Gloucester.

"He's been quite instrumental in a lot of the success we've had in the last six years," said Buxton.

"He's been building a squad and building a team to hopefully win things at the top of Europe and the top of the Premiership.

"I think that's probably something he'll want to see out."
