Gloucester snap up hooker Lawson

Scott Lawson
Lawson was part of Scotland's 2007 World Cup squad.

Gloucester have signed Scotland hooker Scott Lawson from their Guinness Premiership rivals Sale.

Lawson has been brought in to fill the gap in the squad left by Ross McMillan, who has a long-term knee injury.

The 26-year-old, who has 16 caps, played only four Premiership games for Sale and has signed a deal until the summer of 2010.

"Scott is a high-calibre option to be able to bring in," Gloucester coach Dean Ryan told the club's website.

"It is extremely disappointing to lose a player like Ross but we have moved to replace him with a really good option."

Gloucester are regarded as a hugely ambitious club and I want to help play my part in that quest for success

Scott Lawson
Lawson added: "To get an opportunity with a side like Gloucester is fantastic and I am just desperate for the chance to show them what I can do.

"This is a new chapter in my career and I am looking forward to it.

"Gloucester are regarded as a hugely go-forward and ambitious club and I want to help play my part in that quest for success.

"I have been given an opportunity by Dean Ryan and I will give it everything I can."
