Gloucester's Delve faces surgery

Gloucester number eight Gareth Delve will have surgery on his left knee to assess the damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.

The Welshman is likely to be out for a number of weeks and will miss the start of the 2008/09 season.

Delve, 25, made 20 appearances last season after his summer move from Bath.

"This injury is obviously a setback to him and the club but I have no doubts he will be back in Gloucester colours next season," said coach Dean Ryan.

"Gareth is a tremendous individual and an outstanding player - someone we wanted to build around for the future," added Ryan.

"He has drive, determination and a willingness to succeed and I am sure that he will come through his recovery."

Meanwhile, flanker Akapusi Qera will see a specialist in London on Monday to determine the extent of his knee injury.
