Simpson-Daniel is back at Kingsholm after being released by England |
Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan has expressed his surprise at winger James Simpson-Daniel's omission from England's team to face Scotland. "There is a talk of a squad, and to take him into it and then not select him seems a bit strange to me," Ryan told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
Simpson-Daniel was released on Tuesday, after team-mate Lesley Vainikolo and Paul Sackey made the starting 15.
Matthew Tait and Iain Balshaw are the replacement options in the backs.
Simpson-Daniel has won 10 full caps for his country, the last one being against South Africa last summer.
"I'm not party to every conversation, but from the outside - and bearing in mind his form - it's a strange one," said Ryan.
"I feel for Sinbad [Simpson-Daniel]. He's not had the easiest ride with England and this makes the situation even more complicated, which makes things hard for him."
