Beattie earned his 14th cap against Argentina in June
Glasgow Warriors coach Sean Lineen insists he is optimistic about Johnnie Beattie and James Eddie, who will both undergo shoulder surgery this week. Beattie, 24, who won his 14th cap in Scotland's Test series win in Argentina last month, could be out for up to six months with a shoulder injury. Scotland A cap Eddie, 25, dislocated his shoulder in training last week and is also expected to undergo surgery. "I'm the eternal optimist, but we'll have to wait and see," said Lineen. Beattie will have an operation in Edinburgh this week and has been warned he could be out for a significant part of the season, although he hopes to return sooner. "If I regain the strength at the same level as my right shoulder then it should be sooner," said Beattie. Warriors head coach Sean Lineen said: "Johnny's had a shoulder injury for a while he's been well looked after and it's been fine. "But I think the wear and tear and also the physicality aspect over in Argentina just sort of pushed him over the edge a little bit. "It was time for him to have an operation and it's a blow for Glasgow but it gives a chance to Richie Vernon. "It's not ideal, Johnnie's a key player for us, he's a real x-factor player and was playing very well for Glasgow and for Scotland. "He's frustrated as well, but he'll get the right support - we'll still be using him off the field analysis-wise and keeping the brain ticking over. | It's not ideal, Johnnie's a key player for us, he's a real x-factor player and was playing very well for Glasgow and for Scotland. "I'm not the expert there but he certainly won't be available for Glasgow or for Scotland during the next few months." Eddie is expected to be out for an indefinite period, following a freak injury in training, having already had surgery on his shoulder in recent months. "He just fell awkwardly and landed on his elbow and it just pulled the shoulder out of it's socket," said Lineen. "We're not even doing contact training at the moment, so it was a freak injury. We're not having a lot of luck at the moment. I really feel for him, he's Glasgow through and through and it was going to be a big season for him, it's still going to be a big season for him, but he's going to be out for a while. "It's just one of these things that happen in professional sport in such a high contact sport - and the fact that we've only got two teams the players get pushed from pillar to post - it's the wear and tear, so we have to make sure we do the best we can in looking after them." Glasgow will complete their training with two fixtures already announced against Sale at Firhill on Friday 20 August, and Wasps at Adams Park on Saturday 28 August. Lineen is pleased with the preparations for the start of the new season and "We had a fantastic representation on the three summer tours," Said Lineen. "There were eight guys that had operations towards the tail end of the season as well, guys like Pat McArthur and Colin Gregor and Dougie Hall, so they've had time to recuperate and they're coming through now "I'm really excited with the squad that we've got, we've replaced experience with a bit of youth and energy and the way the game's going now "The ball's going to be in play a lot longer, so I'm working hard with Rory Jackson and Duncan Weir and there's a real buzz about the place. "It's just making sure we look after the players, we don't want too many more injuries, we've got to make sure we get the balance right."
