Chiefs far from the finished article - Baxter Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has warned against reading too much into Saturday's victory over Gloucester. Exeter won their first Premiership game 22-10, thanks in part to a flawless kicking display from Gareth Steenson. Baxter told BBC Spotlight: "We know we're far from the finished article and we're very aware that certain Gloucester players underperformed. "It's very important for us to keep our feet on the ground and get back to working hard this week." While Steenson slotted all five of his penalties at Sandy Park, Gloucester's Nicky Robinson failed to land any of his attempts on goal. "We know that on a different day things could have gone differently, but that's what sport is about," added Baxter. "If you play with determination and work hard, then things can go your way and that's what happened for us on Saturday." | Now we're aware that we're doing some things right |
Next up for the Chiefs is a trip to Welford Road on Saturday, where they will take on defending Premiership champions Leicester. "Whenever you step into something new, the doubt can come if you don't perform well to start with," said Baxter. "But now we're aware that we're doing some things right. "The players are aware of that, and that strengthens our resolve as to where we're heading and what we want to be doing for the rest of the season."
