Alex Blair has joined older brothers Mike and David at Edinburgh after signing a professional contract.

The 19-year-old fly-half has played for Edinburgh at under-16 and under-18 level as well as representing Scotland at cricket as a youth.

"I'm really excited about joining Edinburgh," said the youngest Blair.

"I've been a season-ticket holder and I've always come along to Edinburgh games to support the team as well as Mike and Dave."

Scrum-half Mike is the Edinburgh skipper and co-captain of Scotland, while David is also a fly-half, although he is not a regular starter in Magners League matches.

"I've not played competitively with my brothers," added Alex.

"I was supposed to play against Dave last season when he was affiliated to Selkirk and I was playing for Edinburgh Accies but Dave was selected for Edinburgh that weekend."

Mike said: "It's a proud day for me and my family.

"I watched Alex with Edinburgh Accies and Scotland's under-20s and I've been impressed by what he can do.

"He's got the ability to beat a man one-on-one and he's got a bit of flair.

"He has a few things to work on, as most kids do, but I'm looking forward to working with him next season."

And David added: "We're competitive as a family, whether it's rugby, tennis or table-tennis, and Alex joining Edinburgh is sure to increase competition here too and that's a good thing."

Head coach Rob Moffat said of his newest addition: "He is an exciting young talent with a lot of potential. Alex now has to prove himself at pro-level and also be given the opportunity to do so."
