Robinson guided Edinburgh to second top of the Magners League

Edinburgh chief executive Nic Cartwright insists the club are in a strong position to maintain success despite the departure of Andy Robinson.

Robinson was installed as Scotland head coach on Monday after 20 months with Edinburgh, during which time he sealed a second-place Magners League finish.

"We have got a really talented backroom staff and a squad bursting with quality," said Cartwright.

"I have every confidence they will show that next year will be better still."

Robinson leaves behind a squad of 15 Scotland internationals, with three players earning their debut caps over the past 18 months.

Edinburgh now start the task of recruiting a new head coach and, while Cartwright thanked Robinson for his service to the club, he insisted the club will leave no stone unturned in the search for a successor.

"Andy's professionalism and knowledge has enabled Edinburgh to progress at a phenomenal rate over the past two seasons and his contribution, both on and off the pitch, will never be forgotten," said Cartwright.

"Edinburgh's head coach role is arguably one of the most attractive jobs around and I'm sure we will attract the interest of coaches with the right skill-set and mindset to continue the progress that has been made.

"Whoever is the most suitable applicant will inherit a talented young squad who are eager to learn and with a tremendous team spirit."

No front-runner has emerged as Robinson's replacement, with the 2009/10 Magners League season starting on 4 September.
