Connacht: (10) 24 Tries: Treviranus, Matthews 2 Cons: Dunne 3 Pens: Dunne 1
Ospreys: (0) 20 Tries: Phillips, Roberts Con: Connor, Biggar Pens: Connor, Biggar The Ospreys completed their Magners League campaign without a single away win as they lost to bottom club Connacht at the Sportsground. Ofisa Treviranus' 19th-minute try helped Connacht lead 10-0 at the break with Andy Dunne notching five points. Keith Matthews scored two great second-half tries for Connacht but they also had Conor McPhillips red carded. Tries from Kristian Phillips and Martin Roberts helped reduced Connacht's lead but the Irish province held on. The Connacht victory gave retiring duo Matt Mostyn and Darren Yapp a winning send-off. This was a very open encounter with both sides showing a commendable willingness to throw the ball wide and attack off multi-phase possession. However, the scoreboard remained untroubled until Treviranus scooted over for his first Magners League try. Connacht fly-half Dunne converted Treviranus' touchdown and he also landed an injury-time penalty before the break. Centre Matthews burst through for the first of his tries after the break and he repeated the dose in the 62nd minute. By that stage, McPhillips, playing his final game for Connacht, had been dismissed for a straight-arm challenge and both Marty Holah and Brett Wilkinson had spent time in the sin-bin. The Ospreys dominated for a 10-minute spell, landing a penalty from Shaun Connor and a neatly finished try by Phillips, who became the youngest player to start a Magners League game at 17 years and 250 days. But Matthews' second effort gave Connacht enough cushion to see out the win despite replacement half-backs Daniel Biggar and Roberts inspiring a late Ospreys rally.
