The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff can hold up to 74,500 fans |
Cardiff Blues have decided to switch their Heineken Cup quarter-final tie against Toulouse on 11 April from the Arms Park to the Millennium Stadium. The Arms Park holds 13,000 people, but the Millennium Stadium can hold 74,500. The Blues will initially be using the middle and lower tiers of the stadium, which has a capacity of 36,000 seats. Cardiff Blues chief executive, Robert Norster said: "Our supporters now can look forward to another superb occasion at the Millennium Stadium." The Blues have already enjoyed huge success at the Millennium Stadium this season. A record crowd of more than 27,000 supporters turned up to watch a thrilling pool match that saw the Blues secure maximum points against Gloucester with a 37-24 victory. | 606: DEBATE |
The Blues will have 27,000 seats, with Toulouse supporters being allocated 9,000 although more of the stadium could be opened up if demand for tickets proves greater than expected. The Blues are number one seeds in the competition with six wins, 27 points and 23 tries in the pool stages. "We are naturally delighted not only to have reached the quarter-finals of the Heineken Cup for the second consecutive year, but to have finished the pool stages as number one seeds," Norster added. "It is testament to all the hard work put in by [head coach] Dai Young, his coaching team and our entire squad of players. "There was a fantastic atmosphere generated when we played Gloucester there earlier in the campaign and I sincerely hope we will have another big crowd for this Heineken Cup quarter-final match."
