Full-back Ben Blair celebrates Cardiff Blues' win in Biarritz
Ben Blair hailed his team-mates after Cardiff Blues overcame some terrible weather, wayward kicking and waves of Biarritz attacks to win 10-6 in France.
The win sees the Blues remain on course for the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.
"We did really well apart from probably a record amount of charge-downs between myself, Nicky (Robinson) and Spicy (Jason Spice)," said full-back Blair
"It was a really hard day to play any rugby, it was just one of the days to get it into their half."
The Blues were 10-0 up after just 12 minutes thanks to Jamie Robinson's try and a conversion and penalty from Blair.
But that was the end of the Welsh region's scoring for the afternoon at the Parc des Sports Aguilera, digging deep to produce a defensive performance that largely kept Biarritz at bay.
"It wasn't great conditions there underfoot and we came over here with the attitude, you know, just want to get the job done and we didn't care how we did it and that's how we did it, we did it the hard way," Blair added.
"At 10-0 I was pretty confident that we'd close the game out from there because it was just so hard to score any points.
"We knew we had to get down there and do the job second half but, yeah, it was touch-and-go really."
The Blues final two group games are in January, firstly a tough trip to Gloucester - the only other contenders in Pool Six - and finishing up with a home match against Italian side Calvisano.
"We've put ourselves in a great position, maybe if we try and get the bonus point against Calvisano and pick up what we can against Gloucester we should be alright," Blair said.
