Czekaj suffered his horror injury on Wales' 2007 tour to Australia |
Wales wing Chris Czekaj concedes completing his year-long rehabilitation from a horror injury is a "huge psychological boost." Czekaj suffered a serious leg break that threatened his career on Wales' tour to Australia last summer. But the 22-year-old returned in Cardiff Blues' 51-3 pre-season win over a Premiership Select XV on Thursday. "I had no problems at all and it was a huge psychological boost to come through unscathed," said Czekaj. | 606: DEBATE |
His right femur was shattered in five places during an injury sustained in Wales' second Test defeat by Australia in Brisbane in June 2007. Czekaj has endured 14 gruelling months of rehabilitation to revive his career so playing in the Sardis Road friendly was the end of his long road to recovery. "I didn't think I'd last that long," admitted Czekaj after his 40 minute run-out. "Playing again is huge for anyone that sustained a serious injury. The leg felt great and I was quite comfortable, I suffered no ill-effects. "I felt a little nervous on the way to the game but as soon as I got in the changing room, I was fine." Czekaj played a vital role in debutant Ceri Sweeney's first try for the Blues as they roped to a nine-try victory. Blues new boy Richard Mustoe scored a hat-trick of tries while fellow winger Aled Brew, also signed from the Ospreys, touched down twice. Welsh international Tom James, back-row forward Mark Lewis and outside-half Nicky Robinson also scored in the Blues victory.
