Luke Evans is qualified to play for both Wales and Australia |
Cardiff Blues have signed promising young scrum-half Luke Evans from the Queensland Reds Academy in Australia. Evans, 19, has lived in Australia since 2001, but having a Welsh father means he is qualified to play for both Wales and the Wallabies.
The goal-kicking number nine was part of the Australia Schoolboys squad that went to Fiji and New Zealand last year.
"I'm really pleased to have signed for the Cardiff Blues and to return to Wales," Evans said.
"They look like a squad that are improving every year so it looks like it could be an exciting season ahead."
Blues chief executive Robert Norster welcomed the recruitment of Evans, who cites Wales' Dwayne Peel and All Black Byron Kelleher as his role-models in the game.
"We're delighted to welcome Luke back to Wales and give him an opportunity to further his career with the Cardiff Blues in the country where he spent much of his early life," Norster said.
"He is a quality young player and will improve the strength in depth we have here at the Arms Park."
