Selley joined the Ospreys from the Scarlets last summer |
Cardiff Blues coach Dai Young says Tal Selley's recent form for the Wales Sevens persuaded him to sign the versatile back on a season's loan. Wing or centre Selley, 27, helped Wales reach the semi-finals in the final two legs of the IRB World Sevens series.
"We are pleased to welcome such a talented and versatile player as Tal to our squad," said Young.
"We sincerely hope that Tal's recent form on the Sevens circuit is something he can transfer into the 15-man game."
Selley has been recruited as a stand-in for Chris Czekaj, who has been ruled out for at least a year after breaking his right leg on Wales duty.
He struggled to establish himself at the Ospreys after joining from the Scarlets on a three-year deal last year.
And with an abundance of riches behind the scrum, the Swansea-based region have decided to release him on loan to ensure he plays regularly.
Ospreys director of rugby Kevin Hopkins said: "This arrangement fits in well with our current playing strategy."
The Ospreys this week also agreed a season-long loan for wing Richard Mustoe to join the Dragons, a similar deal with Aled Brew proving successful last season.
Lyn Jones' side still retain wings Jon Vaughton, Stefan Terblanche, Nikki Walker and Shane Williams in their strong squad.
