A late penalty in a 100% kicking show from Nicky Robinson edged out battling Bourgoin in a Heineken Cup dead rubber.
Ben Blair crossed for two excellent first-half tries, before Davit Khinchagishvili got Bourgoin going.
A Nick Macleod try after the break eased the home side's lead to 24-5, but the visitors' forward power told.
Mark Rennie, Jean-Francois Coux and Pascal Peyron crossed for tries to bring the scores level, before Robinson nervelessly struck a difficult penalty.
With their side playing with abandon in a no-pressure game, the Blues fans - already excited at the news of Gareth Thomas' return to the Arms Park next season - were treated to a fine early try from Blair.
Inside centre Macleod created the space, Robinson sending the wide scoring pass to the Kiwi full-back.
Blair is the Blues' usual place-kicker, but with Robinson keen to push his case for a call-up to the Wales Six Nations squad on Monday the outside-half landed the conversion and a tricky penalty.
Robinson and Macleod were again heavily involved in Blair's second try, forwards Xavier Rush, Martyn Williams and Gary Powell also getting in on the action.
Robinson converted, but a try from Georgian prop Khinchagishvili after a short-range forward drive kept the home side honest, making it 17-5 at the break.
A Robinson grubber kick sent Macleod in for the Blues' third try, but the French outfit - much-maligned for not trying in the Heineken Cup - again rallied.
Another powerful forward drive resulted in a try for Scottish flanker Rennie, converted by Sebastien Laloo.
Then an individual try from Jean-Francois Coux brought it back to 24-12, the wing producing a brilliant pick-up and having the strength to cross.
The French went back to strength with a patient, rolling drive that dropped Pascal Peyron over the line, Laloo converting to level at 24-24.
But Robinson's late penalty against the wind claimed the victory and aimed a less-than-subtle nudge into the ribs of the Wales selectors.
