Salter's injury is not as bad as was first feared |
Bristol captain Matt Salter faces two weeks out after a scan revealed the neck injury he suffered against Cardiff Blues is not as serious as was feared. The flanker was sent for an X-ray after Sunday's 34-18 loss but a specialist has given him the all-clear, rather than having to go for a third scan.
"It will take a couple of weeks to settle down," boss Richard Hill told the Western Daily Press.
"We have six good players for back row spots but we'll miss his captaincy."
The injury means Salter misses Sunday's Heineken Cup game against Stade Francais.
Roy Winters, Dan Ward-Smith and Alfie To'oala are all in the running to return to the side, but no decision has yet been taken over the captaincy, although flanker Joe El Abd and prop Darren Crompton have previously led the side.
Former Italy centre Walter Pozzebon will not play again until next month after fracturing his cheek in training.
