Carraro has played for Australia A

Bath have signed centre/winger Matt Carraro from New South Wales Waratahs.

The 24-year-old signs on a two-year deal and is the second Australian to join this summer after Julian Salvi's arrival earlier in the month.

"The squad looks great and I am looking forward to playing with them and to developing my game under Steve Meehan and the other coaches," Carraro said.

Carraro began his Super 14 career with the ACT Brumbies before joining the Waratahs, who reached the 2008 final.

"Matt's rugby skills and size will suit us well and we are very pleased that he wants to progress his rugby here at Bath," said head coach Meehan.

"He has a reputation as a hard worker and good bloke off the field and these are the first ingredients we are looking for.

"Being able to play in either centre position or on the wing provides us with great flexibility and, with the added bonus of goal kicking, I am sure he will get plenty of rugby."

Carraro, who started out with the Waratahs Academy, has also been part of the Australia A squad for the Pacific Nations Cup.

Meehan has been chasing new faces following the departures of Michael Lipman, Alex Crockett and Andrew Higgins, who all resigned from the club at the start of June after allegedly refusing to take drugs tests.

And in May, Australian lock Justin Harrison requested an early release from his contract following an alleged incident during the club's end-of-season party.
