Gareth Delve's career has been blighted by injury |
Wales international Gareth Delve's World Cup hopes could be over after the Bath back-row forward suffered a serious knee injury. The 24-year-old is to undergo surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Delve was hurt during Bath's Guinness Premiership defeat against Leicester last weekend, with recovery time likely to take between five and nine months.
Bath have already ruled Delve out for the rest of the season.
It is understood that Delve has agreed a deal to join Bath's west country rivals Gloucester next term.
He won the last of his four caps against Argentina last summer and would have been a fringe candidate for Wales' World Cup campaign, which kicks off against Canada in Nantes on 9 September.
Injuries have blighted Delve's career and he had only recently returned from a shoulder injury that ruled him out of Wales' autumn internationals.
