Chris Henry has played for the Ireland Wolfhounds team |
Ulster number eight Chris Henry will earn his first Ireland cap in the Test against Australia in Brisbane. Henry is one of six changes from the side beaten by New Zealand and he will form a new-look back row along with Niall Ronan and Shane Jennings. Fly-half Jonathan Sexton gets the nod over Ronan O'Gara while centre Paddy Wallace and prop Tony Buckley come in. Australia make two changes with winger Adam Ashley-Cooper and scrum-half Luke Burgess coming into the team. Ashley-Cooper replaces injured winger Digby Ioane (shoulder), while in-form scrum-half Burgess returns in place of Will Genia (hand). Ioane requires surgery after dislocating his shoulder in the 63rd minute of last weekend's narrow loss to England, while Genia is facing a six-week lay-off and will miss the start of the Tri-Nations tournament after suffering a broken thumb in the same match. Kurtley Beale and Josh Valentine have been added to the bench after missing out on the match-day 22 for the Sydney Test. Henry replaces suspended team-mate Jamie Heaslip while Ronan and Jennings take over from John Muldoon (broken arm) and David Wallace, who is absent on paternity leave. Buckley comes in for John Hayes, who has also been left out of the replacements. Sexton's outstanding display in last Friday's defeat by New Zealand Maori was enough to earn him the number 10 jersey at the expense of O'Gara. Inside centre Wallace also did enough as part of a second-string Ireland side against the Maori to force his way back into the line-up ahead of Gordon D'Arcy. Meanwhile, Rhys Ruddock and Damien Varley are in line to make their Test debuts after being named on the bench for the tourists. Very little has separated the two sides in recent meetings, with the teams battling out a 20-all draw at Croke Park last November, while the Wallabies snuck home 18-12 in Melbourne two years ago in the first Test under coach Robbie Deans. "They are a seasoned unit, with proven performers in the key positions," said Deans. "Our recent matches will also have given them plenty of confidence that they can succeed, while their players will be hungry. "This is their last match before a summer break, and a win on Saturday will make this tour a success from their perspective." "As we saw last weekend with England, that combination can be a powerful motivator so anything less than a significant improvement from where we left off in Sydney will not be good enough."
