Luke Fitzgerald will miss Ireland's two remaining autumn Tests

Ireland wing Luke Fitzgerald has been ruled out for up to six months after suffering a serious ligament injury.

The Lions player must undergo surgery on his left knee after sustaining the injury in the second half of the 20-20 draw with Australia.

The Leinster back now misses the autumn Tests against Fiji and South Africa.

Fitzgerald is also likely to be absent for Ireland's defence of their Six Nations title as his recovery period is estimated at four to six months.

He faces a lengthy rehabilitation period after the operation on the ruptured lateral collateral ligament.

Meanwhile, 14 players have been added to the Ireland squad for Saturday's game against Fiji in Dublin.

Among the players added are in-form Ulster wing Andrew Trimble and his uncapped provincial team-mate Chris Henry.

Gordon D'Arcy, Shane Horgan and Peter Stringer also come into Declan Kidney's panel.

Kidney may opt to change his backline against the South Sea Islanders who lost to Scotland on Saturday.

He could continue with Fitzgerald's Croke Park replacement Keith Earls or bring in Trimble.
