 Syd Millar has stepped down as IRB chairman |
Syd Millar has stepped down from his position as International Rugby Board chairman ahead of the World Cup final. The Ballymena man did not seek re-election for the most important post in world rugby at an IRB council meeting in Paris on Friday.
He was elected as IRB chairman in November 2003 after serving as interim chairman for a year following the death of Vernon Pugh.
He will be succeeded by French Rugby Federation president Bernard Lapasset.
Millar's distinguished playing career as a prop included playing for Ulster, Ireland and the Lions.
