Prop Best set to return home soon
Simon Best
Simon Best has undergone tests at a hospital in Bordeaux
Ireland's Simon Best is expected to be released from hospital in France and return home before the weekend following the scare over his health.

Doctors in France have ruled out any neurological problems after carrying out more tests in Bordeaux on Thursday.

Specialists believe his symptoms are cardiac related, but an exact diagnosis has yet to be determined.

Best was rushed to hospital on Wednesday after developing a loss of feeling down his right side.

He has been joined by his wife Katie who arrived in Bordeaux on Thursday and his father John is expected to arrive on Friday.

"Simon is comfortable and all his symptoms have been resolved and he has been joined by his wife Katie," said Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan.

"The care he has received so far has been excellent and team doctor Gary O'Driscoll has been with him throughout this.

"He will remain in hospital for further tests and it is hoped that he will be able to return home in the next 24-48 hours."

Best, who captained Ireland during the two Test tour to Argentina last summer, had taken suddenly ill while on a visit to downtown Bordeaux during some free time.

Best's brother Rory has been included on the Ireland replacements' bench for Sunday's crucial Pool D game against Argentina.

The hooker passed a fitness test on his injured thumb.

Ireland must beat Argentina by more than seven points and score four or more tries to reach the quarter-finals, probably as runners-up to France in Pool D.
