Denis Hickie has announced that he will retire from professional rugby after the Rugby World Cup ends in October. The Ireland and Leinster winger, 31, has won 58 caps, scoring 29 tries since his debut against Wales in 1997.
He was also selected as part of the British and Irish Lions squad which toured New Zealand in 2005.
"I have had a very enjoyable and fulfilling career but for now my focus is on doing everything I can to help Ireland win the World Cup," he said.
"I entered the senior ranks at the dawn of the professional era and benefited from all the advances made in that time.
"I have now decided that the best time to end my career is immediately after the upcoming World Cup.
"It is a decision that I have not come to hastily and as a result I am content that it is both the right thing for me to do and that I am doing it at the right time," he added.
Hickie jointly holds the Irish try-scoring record with Leinster colleague Brian O'Driscoll and was named in Eddie O'Sullivan's panel for the World Cup on Sunday.
