Brian Carney has been in good form for Munster |
Former rugby league star Brian Carney has been named in a 30-man Ireland squad for the summer tour to Argentina. The Munster back is one of seven uncapped players in Eddie O'Sullivan's party but the coach's first-choice starting line-up will be left at home.
Peter Bracken, Tony Buckley, Shane Jennings, Robert Kearney, Barry Murphy and Tomas O'Leary all hope for a first cap while others return after injury.
Simon Best will captain the squad for the matches on 26 May and 2 June.
Stephen Ferris is back after missing much of the RBS Six Nations campaign with a hand injury and Malcolm O'Kelly is back in the fold after recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire championship.

Alan Quinlan and Leo Cullen also return after missing out on the Six Nations.
Household names such as Brian O'Driscoll, Ronan O'Gara, Gordon D'Arcy, Paul O'Connell and Denis Leamy are all omitted with the World Cup clash against the Pumas in September in mind.
O'Sullivan will bring his squad together on Sunday 13 May immediately after the final round of games in the Magners League.
He will be without his Wasps and Leicester contingent for that gathering.
But the likes of Geordan Murphy, Eoin Reddan, Jennings and Cullen will travel to meet up with the squad in Buenos Aires immediately after the Heineken Cup final on 20 May.

O'Sullivan said this tour would always be about "looking at options with the World Cup in mind".
"It is an opportunity for players to put their cases forward for France and in doing so allowed us to rest the majority of the Six Nations squad," he added.
"Argentina is always a tough place to tour and this will be no different.
"It gives us the chance to look at players in a pressurised test match environment and as well as some experienced players, there are also some new prospects there who will benefit from the experience."
The coach said Carney had earned his place in the squad.
"Brian has done well for Munster since his arrival and has earned a call into the squad.
"He has moved across from rugby league without too much disruption to his game and I thought this was a good time to move him onto the next level and see how he performs."
