Harrison opts for Ulster contract

Justin Harrison has signed a three-year contract with Ulster
Ulster have signed Australian lock Justin Harrison on a three-year contract from the NSW Waratahs.

Harrison is expected to join up with the Ravenhill club in time for next season, although Ulster are yet to confirm the deal has been completed.

The 30-year-old, who played in the 2003 World Cup final, surprised the Australian RU by making his decision two weeks into the Super 12 season.

Wallabies coach Eddie Jones said he was disappointed by Harrison's move.

"Justin has been a member of the Wallaby squad for four years now and has made an outstanding contribution to the team," said Jones.

"His departure is disappointing. However, we are confident there are a number of good young players ready to take up the challenge."

ARU managing director Gary Flowers said they had made Harrison a good offer and had been prepared for further negotiations.

Harrison made a memorable Wallabies debut in the deciding Test against the British and Irish Lions in 2001 and won the Super 12 with the ACT Brumbies before moving to the NSW Waratahs last season.

He had been linked with a move to the new Super 14 franchise in Perth but opted for Ulster and the chance of playing Heineken Cup rugby.
