Former Australian centre Gary Ella succeeded Matt Williams at Leinster |
Leinster have dismissed head coach Gary Ella after a disappointing season for the Irish province. Australian Ella was appointed on a three-year contract in the summer of 2003 after Matt Williams moved to take the Scotland job.
Ella's position was seen as vulnerable after players made it known that they wanted a change.
Last season Ella was, at times, without more than 20 players through international call-ups and injuries.
"I would like to thank Gary for all his efforts in what has been a difficult season where the absence of players and a lengthy injury list were contributing factors," said Leinster chief executive Michael Dawson.
He said the provincial team management committee felt a change was required and a fresh approach needed.
Leinster hope to name Ella's successor "within days".
