LATEST UPDATES FROM FANS, REPORTERS, PUNDITS & PLAYERS

2015 BST: Andrew Young, via e-mail from NZ
We migrated to NZ four years ago and I am now a citizen here. My decision to support the Blacks was made easier by the selection of only three Scots. I reckon the All Blacks backs will tear holes in the Lions defence and will get ample ball to do so from Richie McCaw, who is the best flanker since Michael Jones. The Lions' best hope is from line-out ball but Steve Thompson can't throw.

1710 BST: Lions officials
The Lions will be getting out and about again in the community before Wednesday's match. Some of the players will visit patients and staff at Barrett Street Hospital in New Plymouth, while others will visit a rugby coaching session for youngsters in the area.

1515 BST: Martin Bayfield, Radio Five Live
I think Paul O'Connell will be one of the Test locks but who is going to partner him? They are all great Test players but they need a balanced combination. I would go for Simon Shaw, even though he has only just arrived. O'Connell will play the Martin Johnson role and do the hard graft, the rucking and mauling. Shaw is outstanding with the ball in hand and the Lions will need to shift the big men out into the channels to make headway. If not Shaw, I would probably go for Danny Grewcock.

1407 BST: David Williams, via email from Jordan
Just bought my ticket for the first Test for 300 quid! Going to be an expensive tour me thinks!

1241 BST: Undercover Kiwi
The ground on which Martin Johnson learnt the dark arts of the second row is now sown in swedes. The Tihoi rugby club where Johnson played as a teenager, and earned selection for the New Zealand Colts, has disbanded and the rugby field totally planted in swedes, complete with rugby posts. It may have seen better days, but it does post a sign that proudly states 'Martin Johnson Stadium'. Actually it's not really a sign, just a bit of cardboard tacked onto a fence. They don't make a song and dance about things in these parts.

1139 BST: Alistair Smith, via email
I am here travelling in New Zealand, and find the people to be friendly, humurous and open to some good banter surrounding the current Lions series. It is such a shame therefore that the press sees fit to print the utter rubbish spouted by such 'great' names as Mr Mains.

1022 BST: Gordon Slater, veteran Taranaki prop
The way the English and the Welsh teams have been going everyone wants to measure themselves against the northern hemisphere to see where they are at. We've got a game plan sorted out, we know what we want to do. We've just got to get our hands on the ball.

0935 BST: Lawrence Dallaglio, Radio Five Live Half of you wants to stay here and be with the team. The other half knows it is in your best interests, and probably theirs too, to push on and get cracking with my recovery. I think it is best if I get home and start getting the sort of physio I need. The longer I wait, the longer it will take to get back.

0918 BST: Allan Malcolm, via email
If the management can swing it, there could be great mileage in keeping Dallaglio with the squad for the rest of the tour. His input would be invaluable, particularly to the virgin Lions. But perhaps more importantly, he is a great rallier of people and he could help Brian O'Driscoll enormously off the field, keeping up the spirits and enthusiasm of the dirt-trackers.

0848 BST: Chris Lee, via email from Auckland Great to see the atmosphere hotting up over here. We have moved here to live and are loving it; the Lions just makes it even better. Great to see the Lions players at Albany (North Harbour Stadium) and thanks to the whole entourage for their great PR job with the fans and locals.

0815 BST: Mark Nicholson, via email from Auckland: I am an ex-pat living in NZ. I attended the open training for both the Lions and NZ. My two sons were fortunate enough to play an exhibition game prior to the NZ open training. I only wish they had played prior to the Lions training. It is testimony to the respect that the Lions are held in that although training was on a wet Tuesday morning as opposed to a dry Sunday afternoon, the Lions still drew twice as many spectators.

0735 BST: Lawrence Dallaglio, BBC News:
I have had a very honest discussion with my surgeon and we think we are looking at October for a comeback. If all goes to plan, I would miss the first month of the season which is not disastrous in the grand scheme of things. I am contracted to play for Wasps for another year and once I am back, I will take a view from there. But it would be disappointing to finish my international career after 20 minutes against Bay of Plenty.

0706 BST: Dodger, via email from Groningen
I am an Aussie rugby lover currently located in the Netherlands, and following this Lions tour in a rugby coverage black hole. I can't help feeling that most opinions expressed are so overblown it's beyond belief... Why don't we enjoy the tour game by game and forget the excruciating analysis. Once in 12 years, the occasion should be enjoyed.

0613 BST: Undercover Kiwi
The Lions PR machine, led by Alistair Campbell, is still annoying the media. He's been described as an "overbearing control-freak" and the Lions operation as stage-managed, slick and sanitized. Team namings have deviated from the media schedule, the injury status of players has been shrouded in secrecy and one Sunday paper suggests doctor James Robson has been told off for giving journalists too much information about injuries. It appears a paranoia complex has taken hold.

0436 BST: Glen Schofer, via email from Wellington
Having just returned from the UK, I find the NZ public a little one-eyed as usual. They think this will be a Black-out, 3-0, but I think it will be closer than most realise. The buzz around the city is amazing. I heard a fair bit of banter when I wore my Hammers top out on Friday night. Can't wait for the Tests.

0343 BST: Eddie Butler, Radio Five Live
I think the Lawrence Dallaglio effect has rubbed off on Josh Lewsey. He was on the Tour of Hell in 1998 and seven years on he has got that indomitable spirit that wants to keep knocking them over again and again. That's what you need down here.

0213 BST: Alistair Hignell, Radio Five Live
Taranaki will be stronger than Bay of Plenty and the Lions - at least on paper - look to be a bit weaker, so it is another big test on Wednesday.

0128 BST: Murray Brown, via email
As an Aucklander living in Reading I just want to pass a quick comment on Laurie Mains' words. All he's basically doing in my view is trying to undermine Graham Henry's work if the Blacks beat the Lions. Its down to the old North v South rivarly again. Do you think Laurie Mains would be saying what he did if he was coaching the Blacks in this series? Of course not. He'd be saying they're the greatest side Lions tour part ever.
