James could go straight into the side to face New Zealand |
South Africa have called up Sharks fly-half Butch James into their Tri-Nations squad to face New Zealand. James replaces lock Danie Rossouw, who has suffered a hamstring injury.
James could come into the side for Jaco van der Westhuyzen, who was severely criticised for his performance in South Africa's 49-0 thrashing by Australia.
"We have enough players to cover for Rossouw in the forwards. James will be a good replacement - he adds experience to the backline," said Jooste.
"You achieve nothing by way of creating space by drifting across the field. Hard, straight running is what we need and Butch is the perfect man for that."
The 26-year-old has won nine caps for South Africa, scoring 21 points.
