Wilkinson has not played for England since the World Cup final |
Jonny Wilkinson says England need some "big wins" to get back on track for a successful defence of the World Cup. After losing 15 of their 26 Tests since their 2003 triumph, Andy Robinson's side have slipped out of the reckoning for next year's competition in France.
But Wilkinson insists they still have time to turn things around.
"It's about trying to get a series of big wins under your belt and getting that feeling that you can beat anyone at any time," he told Five Live.
"I don't see why that's going to be a problem. England have got the right coaches and right players."
Wilkinson hopes to have a direct impact on England fortunes after overcoming his latest injury setback.
A series of arm, knee and groin problems have prevented the 27-year-old fly-half from pulling on an England shirt since his match-winning drop goal in the World Cup final.
But he says he is looking forward to the start of a new season with club side Newcastle.
"I'm fit to play now and have been since the start of the summer," he said. "I'm in better shape now for playing than I've ever been."
England suffered two heavy defeats to Australia last month but have the chance to make amends when they take on New Zealand, Argentina and South Africa in November.
