Caucau will join Fiji's Pacific Five Nations squad |
Fiji's Rupeni Caucaunibuca has been allowed to return from a 12-month international ban eight weeks early. Caucaunibuca was banned from playing for Fiji for a year after he failed to appear at several matches in 2005.
The Fiji Rugby Union said the ban was cut short after Caucaunibuca showed remorse and a desire to return.
"Rupeni genuinely regrets what happened last year," said Fiji coach Wayne Pivac. "I'm looking forward to having him in the Pacific Five Nations squad."
The FRU said: "The original ban was to run through to August but he has been in constant contact with coach Wayne Pivac over the past few weeks and appears very serious about making amends.
"The FRU board thus agreed to reduce the ban, bearing in mind he had already missed out on last November's tour to Europe as well as the Commonwealth Games."
Caucaunibuca is set to return to Fiji from his French club side Agen and will join the squad for next month's inaugural Pacific Five Nations tournament.
Caucaunibuca scored 17 tries in 23 matches this season for Agen, where he is contracted until 2008.
