Two tries from James Simpson-Daniel helped the hosts into an 18-14 lead at the break, with Olivier Magne and Bruce Reihana replying for the Baa-Baas.

Matt Burke's try put the Baa-Baas into the lead early in the second half.

Scores from Olly Barkley, who kicked 16 points, and James Forrester then gave England a 32-19 lead and David Barnes and Delon Armitage scored late on.

England went into the match with the memory of a second consecutive fourth place in the Six Nations hanging over them and they were determined to finish the season on a high.

Coach Andy Robinson fielded a much-changed side, with hooker Lee Mears the only player to survive from the team which lost the final match in the championship against Ireland.

Two Barkley penalties gave England an early 6-0 lead and the Bath man was on target with the conversion after Simpson-Daniel intercepted a Reihana pass and raced almost the length of the field.

However, within two minutes the Baa-Baas opened their account as Magne pounced on Mathew Tait's error and cantered over untouched, with Burke converting.

The invitational side took the lead as ex-Australia number eight Toutai Kefu cut through the midfield, with the help of what looked like a block, and Reihana cruised over.

Burke converted but the Baa-Baas found themselves behind as Tait sparked a counter-attack which ended with Peter Richards sending Simpson-Daniel over for his second try.

Barkley converted to give England an 18-14 lead at the break but the Baa-Baas went back in front when Burke dived over out wide, although the Newcastle full-back could not add the conversion.

England re-took the lead with two tries in four minutes either side of the hour mark.

First Barkley picked off a loose Carlos Spencer chip to scamper over before Forrester dotted down after a neat off-load from replacement hooker David Paice.

Barkley converted both to give England a 32-19 lead and they finished much the stronger against a scratch Barbarians side.

Substitutes Barnes and Armitage each scored late tries, with Barkley converting both to give England a comprehensive win.
