Varndell played in both games on England's summer tour |
Leicester's Tom Varndell has vowed to regain his place in the England senior set-up for the World Cup after being demoted to the Senior National Academy. The 20-year-old was in the squad that toured Australia in the summer but admits he did not do himself justice.
"It was a big step up and I didn't handle myself as well as I could have done," he said.
"I want to be in the World Cup squad. I must play well week-in week-out for Leicester, not just the odd game."
Having lost his place in the 40-man elite squad, winger Varndell is the only full cap in the Academy group of 15 developing players.
He admits to having not played well on the tour, and having been overwhelmed by the experience, but says he wants to show he is worth another chance in an England shirt.
"I didn't play good enough in Australia - I played pretty averagely," he said.
"I want to build on my game defensively and with my kicking and I want to show people I've got more than just speed and that I'm not just a Sevens player."
