Wales-Scotland player ratings
By Sean Davies
BBC Sport at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

WALES:

Gareth Thomas - 9:
Always offers authority, but good to see the return of his try-scoring flair - and of the Ayatollah!

Mark Jones - 9:
Kept Sean Lamont honest, Jones' attacking flair and distribution adds a new element to Wales' Grand Slam side.

Haldane Luscombe - 6:
Solid enough, but Thomas' temporary switch to centre gave Wales an extra dimension.

Matthew Watkins - 8:
A real running threat at inside centre, although his distribution needs work. Gavin Henson has a battle on his hands for the number 12 jersey.

Shane Williams - 8:
After a troubled few months the dancing magic seems to have returned to Williams' game.

Stephen Jones - 7:
His experience and skill continue to provide the calmest of guiding hands to Wales.

Dwayne Peel - 9:
Peel has slipped straight back into his Grand Slam and Lions form after injury. Never allowed the Scottish defence a moment's rest.

Duncan Jones - 9:
Destroyed Bruce Douglas in the tight, rampant in the loose. Showed why Gethin Jenkins continues to cool his heels on the bench.

Rhys Thomas - 7:
Bounced back from a mauling at Twickenham with a solid display. Huge potential.

Adam Jones - 8:
Had Gavin Kerr in trouble at the scrum - a vital cornerstone of Wales' pack.

Ian Gough - 7:
In the guts of Wales' forward obstinance. His aggravation of Scott Murray helped Wales to an easy afternoon.

Robert Sidoli - 8:
A try capped an impressive all-round display, but the line-out was creaking before Murray's dismissal.

Colin Charvis - 7:
The mercurial Charvis was up for this game. Rattled the Scots with his defensive work and carried well.

Martyn Williams - 7:
Scavenged effectively against the marauding Scottish forwards and his link work was as classy as ever.

Michael Owen - 6:
Superb control at the base of the scrum for Wales' pushover try. The loose game suited Owen, but it would have been nice to have seen more from the number eight.

REPLACEMENTS:

Mefin Davies - 6:
Given the final five minutes in place of the impressive Rhys Thomas.

Gethin Jenkins - 6:
Did a good job on the tight-head against the weakened Scots in the closing 20 minutes.

Adam M Jones - 6:
Replaced Sidoli with just two minutes remaining on the clock.

Gareth Delve - 6:
Got his first cap after replacing Charvis for the final 15 minutes, Delve will have more difficult tests in international rugby.

Michael Phillips - 6:
Ran forcefully at the tiring Scottish defence after replacing Peel.

Nicky Robinson - 6:
Got a rare run as Matthew Watkins limped off in the final 10 minutes.

Lee Byrne - 7:
Showed good pace for his disallowed try within moments of coming on as a blood replacement.

SCOTLAND:

Hugo Southwell - 7:
Hardly seen as an attacking force until his late try. Sound enough - but comparisons with his opposite number would be unfavourable.

Chris Paterson - 7:
Kicked well at goal and took his try superbly, but fluffed a try-scoring half-chance in the first half.

Ben MacDougall - 5:
A baptism of fire on his first cap, Wales posed some severe questions of the midfield defence.

Andrew Henderson - 5:
A destructive force in defence and attack, but Watkins' quick feet befuddled the Glasgow Warrior.

Sean Lamont - 6:
Looked a caged tiger. Never got his chance to roar and was kept busy by the lively Mark Jones.

Dan Parks - 5:
Could not make an impression on the Welsh defence and struggled to contain the fly-half/inside centre channel.

Mike Blair - 6:
Sharp and incisive even behind a beaten pack, but Dwayne Peel will be in his nightmares for the next 12 months.

Gavin Kerr - 4:
Struggled to cope with Adam Jones' scrummaging and was taken off after 55 minutes.

Scott Lawson - 5:
Recovered his nerve after some shaky early throw-ins. Replaced by Ross Ford early in the second half.

Bruce Douglas - 4:
Did some storming work in the loose but was destroyed by Duncan Jones at the scrum.

Alastair Kellock - 6:
An early threat to Wales' line-out possession, but Murray's red card left him with no support.

Scott Murray - 3:
Was starting to assert his dominance at the line-out before his 21st-minute moment of madness.

Jason White - 6:
The captain put in his trademark hits, but they were in vain behind a beaten front five.

Allister Hogg - 6:
The pick of the vaunted Scotland back-row trio for his breakdown and support work.

Simon Taylor - 4:
A somewhat anonymous display from the Lions forward who found it hard to make an impression off the back foot.

REPLACEMENTS:

Ross Ford - 6:
The hooker came on with the game already a lost cause and little opportunity to show what he can do.

Craig Smith - 5:
Did nothing to turn the scrum battle when he came into the front row, but carried well.

Scot MacLeod - 6:
Replaced the over-worked Kellock after 67 minutes and continued to battle hard from the weakened second row.

Jon Petrie - 6:
A solid 15 minutes after replacing the hard-working Hogg in the Scotland back-row.

Chris Cusiter - 5:
Found Scotland's retreating scrum as difficult to work with as Blair had.

Gordon Ross - 6:
The fly-half asked a few questions of the Welsh defence after coming on with 30 minutes to go.

Simon Webster - 6:
Came on to a thankless task in trying to contain Wales' backs.
