Wilkinson has endured a miserable time with injuries since the World Cup |
Lions doctor James Robson has insisted Jonny Wilkinson's latest injury to his neck and shoulder is not serious. Wilkinson's "stinger" injury has ruled him out of the third Test against New Zealand after he missed most of the season with knee and shoulder problems.
"Jonny got two bangs on the same piece of nerve," said Robson.
"Since then, he's made fantastic progress. If this tour had two weeks to run, then no doubt he'd be available for selection next week."
Wilkinson played in the first and second Tests, but was taken off at the weekend after an attempted tackle on Daniel Carter brought about a recurrence of his long-running "stinger" problems.
"If you question all the tour members, it is amazing how many people have had a stinger," said Robson.
"It is a bruising to some of the nerves coming out of the neck and going into the shoulder.
"Jonny will recover very quickly. The first one cleared very quickly in a few seconds, and the second one was of sufficient concern to actually bring him out of that danger area.
"It can take anything between a few moments or many months.
"Gavin Henson has a similar problem, but will not recover in the next week or so. He may be several weeks, and his is taking longer to recover, although one would expect him to make a full recovery."
