| How did the Lions players perform in the midweek victory over Auckland at Eden Park? Geordan Murphy: Always tried to be involved in the action but had little chance to really affect the outcome of the game. Will probably miss out on the Test squad. Mark Cueto: The Sale wing has done little wrong on this tour and put in another strong performance. His superb counter attack set up Martyn Williams' try and he was also brave in defence. Will Greenwood: Greenwood has not been able to find his top form in New Zealand and after another quiet display he was replaced early in the second half. Gordon D'Arcy: It is too late for the Lions of course but the Irish centre showed that he has finally put his injury problems behind him with an energetic and accomplished display. Denis Hickie: Could have scored from a clever cross-field kick but just failed to catch the ball after a tricky juggle. He also had a first-half clearance charged down but did well when asked to defend. Charlie Hodgson: Looked sharp and in control before he was injured with a quarter of the game gone as he desperately tried to defend an Auckland attack. Matt Dawson:
The Englishman has cut a forlorn figure while occupying various benches on the tour so far but there was no sulking at Eden Park and he produced a typically commanding and spiky scrum-half display. Graham Rowntree: Played his part as the Lions gained parity in the scrum and took his blows in the loose. Complete commitment as ever from the Leicester forward. Gordon Bulloch: A proud leader and Lion, Bulloch again personified the spirit that has been present in the unbeaten midweek team. His performance showed why he has been unlucky not to be involved in the Test shake-up so far. John Hayes: Has never looked comfortable on this trip and again struggled to impose himself. Many feel he is fortunate to have made the tour party and has done little to sway the doubters. Simon Shaw: A late call-up to the tour, Shaw has never taken a step backwards and was physical and aggressive at Eden Park. Helped disrupt the Auckland lineout and found plenty of ball in the loose. Ben Kay: The lock was in the thick of it despite playing his second game in three days. Did some good lineout work but was taken off just before half time with a painful black eye after a 'disagreement' with Sam Tuitupou. Jason White: A typically committed and tough-tackling effort from White in his first Lions game and, like all good blind-side flankers, did all the unseen stuff that rarely makes the headlines. Martyn Williams: The Welshman showed why he is so revered in his homeland and his first-half try was just reward for all his toil. Holding up John Afoa on the try-line highlighted the work he got through in defence. Michael Owen: Solid and unspectacular, Owen played his part as the Lions gained dominance up front even though there were few rampaging ball-carrying breaks forward.
Replacements: Ronan O'Gara (replaced Hodgson on 21 minutes): Almost the forgotten fly-half on this tour but looked assured on his arrival and kicked well under pressure. Brent Cockbain (replaced Kay on 35 mins): Was totally committed to the cause and could have been sin-binned for some aggressive rucking. Involved in some fisticuffs with scrum-half Steve Devine for his efforts. Shane Horgan (replaced Greenwood on 49 mins): Looked lively when he came on and added steel and energy to the Lions midfield as Auckland started to threaten. Martin Corry (replaced White on 54 mins): Did nothing wrong but had little chance to impose himself. Matt Stevens (replaced Hayes on 59 mins): Did nothing wrong but had little chance to impose himself.
