Dallaglio damaged his ankle and ligaments and broke his fibia |
Lawrence Dallaglio believes the Lions can overcome the setback of his injury and claim a series win in New Zealand. Dallaglio will miss the tour after breaking and dislocating his ankle in the win over Bay of Plenty on Saturday.
"We can win the Test series against the All Blacks and this isn't about any one player," he insisted.
"Kiwis will have seen enough to realise this is going to the wire. Whether I am there or not is irrelevant because they will be in for a tough time."
Martin Corry, who impressed when he came on for Dallaglio in Rotorua, could now be in pole position for the number eight shirt, though Welshman Michael Owen is also in the running.
Most neutrals expect a home victory but Dallaglio is confident that the Lions have enough strength in depth to challenge throughout.
"The guys have the firepower to achieve a series win, even though everyone in this country is saying otherwise," the former England captain said. "I believe we showed enough in the first game to suggest we are going to have an exciting tour.
"We have so many match-winners across the team, with Jason Robinson and Gareth Thomas still to arrive, and have a chance of being very successful.
"England won here after 30 years of trying in 2003 and that proved it is possible and there aren't many bigger things in rugby than to be remembered as part of a Lions tour that won a series in New Zealand."
The first Test takes place in Christchurch on Saturday 25 June.
