Jade Stadium was known as Lancaster Park from 1880 until 1998 when it was renamed as part of a sponsorship deal. The 36,500-seater stadium will host just one game - the first Lions Test on 25 June.
Away from Lions duty, it is the home of rugby side the Canterbury Crusaders, who were crowned Super 12 champions in the 2002 season.
Aside from sports, other highlights there have included hosting a visit from Pope John Paul II in 1986.
Focus on Christchurch Christchurch is the heart of south island and the gateway to New Zealand's countryside and wildlife.
Known as the "Garden City", the city is awash with the parks which were first laid down at its inception.
Maoris hint that the area was first inhabited about a thousand years ago, while the first Europeans landed there in 1815.
The hub of the city is Cathedral Square, the perfect starting point for any whistlestop tour.
