The ground is better known as the "Cake Tin" due to the one large circular stand at the capital's top stadium. The multi-purpose stadium, whose first purpose is for rugby, was built on railway land.
Among Wellington's most famous sons are Jonah Lomu, Jerry Collins and current captain Tana Umaga.
The latter two look set to be among the star turns in a Wellington line-up that has beaten the Lions three times in its 135-year history.
Focus on Wellington The capital of New Zealand may be overshadowed by the bigger Auckland but it remains the culture and arts capital of the country.
An historic city, it boast the world-famous Te Papa museum, the old Government building and the National Library.
But away from the city, the surrounding area boasts luscious, hilly countryside as well as an impressive harbour.
It is also within a short distance of some of the country's top wine regions.
