Venues guide - Palmerston North
ARENA MANAWATU

Venue capacity: 18,300
Home side: Manawatu
Arena Manawatu has it all when it comes to diversity.

It hosts rugby, football and speedway, while concerts and exhibitions are held there, including the recent and much-vaunted beef expo.

The smallest stadium to host a match on the Lions tour, it has seen plenty of top-flight rugby during its time, including previous Lions action.

Manawatu have never beaten the Lions in their history. Their best result was a draw in the 1904 0-0 thriller.

Focus on Palmerston North

The town's name lends itself to the third Viscount Palmerston with the north added to differentiate between its namesake in south island in 1871.

Home to 78,000 residents - and with a big student population - it rests at the foot of the Tararua Mountain Ride.

The town hosts a handful of tourist attractions.

Among the top ones are the Rugby Museum, the fully-interactive Air Force Museum, Te Manawa - a museum, art gallery and science centre - and Pukemarama Garden.
