Venues guide - Invercargill
RUGBY PARK STADIUM

Rugby Park
Venue capacity: 17,000
Home club: Southland
The ground, which holds a capacity of 17,000, is the southernmost Super 12 venue in New Zealand.

Like many of the country's stadia, it hosts a variety of sports, including rugby league and football.

Southland will host the Lions there on 21 June but have only beaten them twice and not since 1966, but they boast an impressive record against the tourists.

The area spawned current All Black Justin Marshall and former international Norm Hewitt among others.

Focus on Invercargill

Invercargill itself came into being when Dunedin settlers began to buy land further and further south.

Its name comes from Scottish pioneer William Cargill, who played a big role in shaping both Otago and Southland.

In its early days it was little more than the centre point for the surrounding farming communities.

Arguably the best-known landmark is the Water Tower, a Victorian building which holds 300,000 litres of water. Be warned - it's 112 steps to the top.
