Aussie skipper George Gregan gets his backs away at Lansdowne Road

Chris Latham was delighted Australia's slide had been halted with a 30-14 victory over Ireland and insisted his try was payback for a slow start.

"I was disappointed with my first-half display so I wanted to come out and do something special in the second half.

"It was a much-needed win and there's a lot of relief. We're happy to get the monkey off our back," he said.

"It was the first minutes of the second half that really set up victory."

Latham said that Australia wanted to go out at the start of the second half and turn the game on its head.

"We came out and showed what we really wanted to do and that was to go out and put their players on the ground and hit them hard.

"Overall we are so glad to get that monkey off our back. Now we can move forward again."
