I thought he (Sheridan) had a top game, he really did

Phil Vickery says his front-row colleague Andrew Sheridan has added a new dimension to the England pack.

Sheridan made his first start for England in their 26-16 victory over Australia at Twickenham and was named man of the match.

"Andy was given an opportunity and was fantastic," Vickery told BBC Sport after Saturday's match.

"The great thing about him is he's an all-round player. He's big, scrummages so well, but can also carry."

Vickery said he was not surprised by Sheridan's display at Twickenham, as the 26-year-old has been regularly impressing for his club side, Sale.

"He's a good player - he's proven that week in, week out," Vickery said.

And England coach Andy Robinson was also full of praise for Sheridan.

"I thought he had a top game, he really did," he said.

"He's been waiting for this occasion and hit the ground running. The work Phil (Keith-Roach, England scrummaging coach) and Sale have done has really developed him.

"But this is the start. It's not just about one performance."
